Jennifer Grey may be returning to the role that made her an international celebrity now that a new Dirty Dancing film is in the works.
When she featured as Frances “Baby” Houseman alongside Patrick Swayze 33 years ago, the 60-year-old actress became a global sensation.
Jennifer will star in, and executive produces an untitled dance picture she is developing with Lionsgate.
The fact that Lionsgate holds the distribution rights to the Dirty Dancing films has prompted passionate fans to speculate that this new venture could be a sequel.
Although it is widely assumed that the future film will continue the tale of the cult hit, this has yet to be confirmed.
The upcoming picture will be set in the 1990s, whereas the original blockbuster was set in the Catskills in 1963.
This has fuelled speculation that Jennifer’s upcoming picture is a Dirty Dancing sequel.
Unfortunately, Jennifer’s co-star Patrick died in 2009 following a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Fans hope Jennifer, who has previously stated that she does not want to be a part of the Dirty Dancing franchise, has changed her mind.
Jennifer and Patrick have previously starred on the big screen together prior to Dirty Dancing. The actor and the duet co-starred in Red Dawn in 1984.
She rose to prominence after starring as Matthew Broderick’s sister in the box office smash Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
Jennifer and Matthew were Hollywood’s prettiest couple in the months leading up to the premiere of Dirty Dancing. They became friends after meeting on stage.
However, just nine days before the film’s release, the two were involved in a horrific accident while on holiday in Ireland.
Anna Gallagher and Margaret Doherty, mother and daughter, were killed instantly in the head-on crash, and Jennifer and Matthew were seriously injured.
He suffered a shattered leg, a collapsed lung, and a concussion, while Jennifer suffered severe whiplash and tore ligaments in the back of her neck.
Despite being in the wrong lane at the time of the crash, Broderick was found guilty of dangerous driving and fined.
Jennifer would be in pain for the rest of her life as a result of the incident, and she would be unable to dance for a long time.
The woman reported that she attempted massage, hot pads, cold, anti-inflammatories, and everything else that may bring comfort.
The actor, who was unable to act for several years after the crash due to the emotional toll, suffered severe long-term effects.
Then, in the early 1990s, Jennifer made a decision that, in her perspective, affected the rest of her career.
She had two nose surgeries, the second to correct the problems caused by the first.
The actress claimed that because to the extreme change, several of her close friends were unable to recognize her.
“I entered the operating room as a superstar and emerged anonymous,” Jennifer explained. “It was like being under witness protection or going undiscovered.”
To kickstart her career, the actress considered changing her name.
Jennifer married actor Clark Gregg in 2001 after dating several A-listers, including Michael J. Fox and Johnny Depp.
Stella is the couple’s sole child, despite the fact that they announced their divorce earlier this month.
Jennifer appeared on Dancing With The Stars, the American equivalent of Strictly Come Dancing, in 2009.
Jennifer underwent surgery to stabilize her neck and treat her compressed spinal cord.
“I had been in pain for so long that I didn’t understand how much it had taken over my life,” she continued.
“I stopped doing several of my favorite hobbies, such as dancing, since I didn’t want the pain to worsen.”
However, during her surgery, doctors discovered a little cancerous node on her thyroid, which is a cause for concern.
Jennifer has remained cancer-free since the tumor was removed.
Jennifer went through a lot, but she and her professional partner, Derek Hough, went on to win the 11th season of Dancing With The Stars.
Her popularity on the show led to her being chosen to step in for head judge Len Goodman on Strictly Come Dancing in 2011.
Jennifer has continued to work as an actor since her early, great success, taking supporting roles in films and major television series such as House and Grey’s Anatomy.
Jennifer appears to be on the verge of re-establishing herself as a major force in Hollywood, with the release of a new Dirty Dancing film.
The first film grossed a whopping $218 million worldwide on a just $5 million budget.
In addition, Frank Previte’s original song, I’ve Had the Time of My Life, received an Oscar and a Golden Globe.
Jennifer was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role as Baby.
